When you are doing your link campaign, make sure that your linking text is keyword targeted. For example, if I wrote an article promoting this site, instead of just having a link like this www.forfreedom.ws I would use a link like this instead Affiliate Marketing for Dummies .

Off-Page Search Engine Optimization Tips

The best way to improve the ranking of your web pages is to get it better known among other sites – especially those that are considered ‘authority’ sites by the search engines.
There is a method of doing this, and it does take time. Even so, doing this job gradually is the best way of doing it. For example, do not use programs or services that claim to submit your site to 2,000 search engines and directories, because most of these are listings that are never seen.

What do I mean by that? Well, what it means is that your site appears on a page which shows the latest sites – for about 15 seconds. Then it disappears off the page into an archive that is not linked, so it becomes invisible.

Get links from directories and sites

The best way to go about this is to submit your site to 30-40 minor directories, which you can find in various lists on the web. Some ask for links back, but it is best to ignore these.

Then, it is important to exchange links with 30-40 good sites, which do not necessarily appear in your niche.

In addition, you will need to contact them and ask for a link, and from time to time you will need to monitor the links to see whether they are still linking to you. This can be automated. Here is an excellent tool.

Articles and authority sites

Another good way of getting links to your site – and thus getting it known – is to submit articles about your subject to article directory sites. There are plenty on the internet, and this operation can be semi-automated as well.

One of the best ways of getting a good ranking is to see how the top listed sites for your keywords do it. This can take a long time manually, and you can’t really do it all yourself.

In the following article I will attempt to address these questions in a simple and easy to understand manner which will allow even the most inexperienced marketer to finally understand the importance of SEO to their long term success on the internet.

Search Engines are a dynamic online compilation of websites that have met certain criteria (as set by each search engine). A user searches for a particluar word or phrase on the search engine and the search engine generates a list of appropriate and related sites to the search term. If you have adequately optimised your site for that particular search engine and term, then your website will be included in the results generated. The more highly optimised your site is, the higher your site will show in the results.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the technique that webmasters or internet marketers utilise to ensure their site is listed in the search engines for search terms relevant to their site. Given the huge growth of the internet in the last 10 years and the billions of websites proliferating the internet, there is fierce competition between webmasters to secure high rankings in the search results. The better the webmaster understands SEO, the better he will optimise his site and the higher his search ranking will be.

The more links you have pointing to your site the more potential visitors are likely to find you and you will subsequently experience a rise in your search engine rankings.

When updating the content of your site, keep in mind that people who are searching on the internet are looking for information. Writing articles that are relvant to your niche is a great way of providing your visitors with the information they’re looking for. Articles are easy to write and you can also submit them to various article directories as well. This in turn will assist your linking strategy by providing additional links back to your site from your articles which are posted on external directories. When you update an article on your site, it is a good idea to archive the original one, so your visitors can return to it if they choose to. This also means that the search engines will also continue to list them in their search result as well.

Checking your statistics for your keywords and keyword phrases is very important, if you don’t know how people are getting to your site and what keywords they are using in the search engines, then you are marketing blindly in my opinion.

Tracking any marketing is so important, how can you possibly know what is working  if you aren’t tracking your results?

For instance, if I look at my search statistics for keyword phrases and suddenly see traffic for a keyword phrase I’m not really targeting or hadn’t even thought of targeting, then I get on over to Google and do a search for that keyword phrase to see where I’m ranked.

I then plug that phrase into my all time favorite keyword software (Keyword Elite) to find out how many searches there are a month and what other related keywords there are.

With this new information I will write a few articles to submit to article directories with linking text targeting the keyword phrase to the page that is ranked in Google.

Writing articles to target specific pages in your site will push that page further up the rankings.

Oh, look what I did, I started rambling again…..Now….getting listed in google in under 20 minutes…

Last night I posted a three new pages, I then went to make a coffee (it helps keep me awake ), when I came back and did my usual Google checks I found that all three pages had been listed in Google, and they held several top positions, ranked 1 & 2 for some keyword phrases, and this all happened in less than 20 minutes!!

Now this site gets spidered often, and new pages usually take around 24 hours (or so I thought!), but 20 minutes!! That’s got to be some kind of record, for me anyways, the trouble is I’m not exactly sure why.

I have several theories…..

It could be just a fluke, maybe the Google robot crawled my site just after I posted, but even so, that’s still really quick.

It could be that I have alot of one way links pointing to my site or that I when I post a blog, it gets pinged all over the net.  For that I use the Wordpress plugins Smart Update Pinger and No Ping Wait.

One thing is for sure, if this keeps happening and I find out exactly why, I will post it here for all to see for free, don’t worry, I won’t be writing some crappy ebook and selling it for $97 like the other “gurus” do.

Reciprocal links (exchanging links with other websites) can help you rank well depending on the sites you are exchanging with and how many other links are on that page etc, however oneway links are far more powerful, these types of links can really push you up the search engine rankings.

But did you know that posting comments on other peoples blogs is one of the easiest ways to get those links?

There is a small catch though! It’s the dreaded NOFOLLOW attribute.

The NOFOLLOW attribute simply tells the search engines not to follow your link from their page, in other words, any websites that you post your links to that are using this attribute aren’t doing you any good in terms of ranking, the search engines just ignore your link.

However, there is a way to find all the websites that allow you to post comments and that don’t use the NOFOLLOW attribute.
